Polyurethane vs. Lacquer, can you get a museum quality finish from a store bought aerosol finished from Home Depot or Lowes ? It's important to note the reason I'm doing this video because these products are readily available to the average american consumer. I am not saying this is the best polyurethane or lacquer on the market. Both products are mid range products in the spectrum of wood finishes. The short answer is yes, and the proof is the table that i'm spraying in the beginning of the video with polyurethane and talking to you about at the end of the video. Curley maple, hard rock maple polyurethane finish sold through www.cherish.com. Lacquer - Distance away from material 12 inches approximately, the feed rate is slower. Overlap fan pattern. You have to be very careful not to get drips or sags.On vertical surfaces. One thing I forgot to mention with this product is that I have experienced the nozzle to spit product out, causing major problems while spraying. Minwasx needs to be fixed. this problem immediately. So buyer beware. Lacquer is easier to apply, yielding quicker results. Dry time is approximately twenty minutes to thirty minutes depending on relaticve humidity. This is great for products that you don't have to handle a lot or furniture that DOES NOT come in contact with water as it is not waterproof. Do not put it on tables. You will get ring marks instantly or chests of drawers or any chair that has a solid wood seat as the finish is generally considered not durable. It works really well on chairs that have a pop in upholstered seats and home decorators that either hang on the wall or lay on shelves. Mirror's lamps are basically anything that you don't handle on a daily basis Polyurethane - Distance away from material twelve inches feed rate much faster than lacquer. To figure out distance and feed rate do samples. Dry time and takes 24 hours, not 2 hours like the can says. This finish is much harder to spray. When you put the first coat on, it feels like sand paper after it dries. This video is just about the aerosol finish products for finishes that are museum quality and not about the sanding ,preparation. Don't sand raw wood products past 120 grits. This burnishes the wood, making it harder to finish. You must sctuff.sand wiith 320 grit sand paper between coats just like with the lacquer. For the surface after the first coat, i scuff sand with 320 I. The same for the base. The top howevere gets scuff sanded between coats to 1500 grit. This little trick will give you a shiny air surface without polishing.I also didn't talk about this in the video, The fan pattern is preset, and you just want to make sure you're overlapping your coats. I do the perimeter first, and then I spray in one direction. So the oversbury goes away from the piece. I usually put a minimum of 3 coats on making sure not to go past that because lacquer will spider crack. If you put too much material on. Thank you for watching police like and subscribe. I forgot to mention this once you start with one product on a piece of furniture, you cannot switch to the other. If you're going to do that you must sand 100% of the finish off. However, I do not recommend doing that. I don't mess with that polyurethane and lacquer. Do not mix products on top of each other. If you do that the finish will peel off in sheets. once you start with one product stick with it and do not switch. https://www.cosmobarbaro.com/ @cosmobarbarofurniture #lacquer #polyurethane #minwax #art #shortsfeed #cherish.com
