NEW YORK STORM New York is currently facing a historic snowstorm, as at least 7 US states declare a state of emergency. Freezing temps, snowmen, and lots of snow, and I mean a lot. Over the past few days the east coast of the US has been hit by a major snow storm. The storm brought record-breaking snowfall with some places copping 91 centimetres of snow. More than 7,000 flights have been cancelled, leaving airports empty, and more than 600,000 properties on the east coast have lost power. Experts say it's the largest storm the region has seen in a decade. So far 7 states, including New York, have declared states of emergency. And travel bans have been put in place. For some, the clean-up has already begun. Response teams and the community are working hard to restore public places, with emergency shovelers hitting the streets, and National Guard members being activated to assist with the clean-up, until the snow starts to settle down. PM EVACUATED Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was evacuated from his private residence in Canberra last night. The Australian Federal Police responded to an "alleged security incident" at The Lodge, resulting in a big presence of emergency services at the property, and the PM being taken to another location for several hours. Police say a search was conducted, and nothing suspicious was found. Mr Albanese took to Instagram this morning with a photo of his dog Toto, confirming he's okay, and the AFP says there's no current threat to the community or public safety. UK PASSPORT CHANGES Some changes to UK passport rules are kicking in today and it's caused a bit of a stir for some Aussies. Dressing up Paddington Bear isn't really going to help you get into the UK, and from today, neither is simply being a British or Irish citizen because some new passport rules have come into effect. You see, before today Aussies who are also British and Irish citizens could enter the UK with either a UK passport, or an Aussie passport! But now, if you're a dual Aussie and British or Irish citizen, you have to have a UK passport to board UK bound flights, trains and ferries! The UK government says the new rules are to help improve national security, but they've caused a bit of a stir, because while this change was announced last year, many people only found about the whole thing earlier last month, which means dual citizens with an upcoming trip have had to quickly scramble to get a UK passport, which can take up to 6 weeks! Dual citizens who don't have a UK passport can either apply for a Certificate of Entitlement, which'll let them travel with an Aussie passport, or alternatively, and perhaps slightly more dramatically, decide to renounce their British or Irish citizenship. 400 YEAR OLD VIOLA First up to a very old viola, which has just been added to the Australian Chamber Orchestra collection. It was made in the year 1610, making it 416 years old. And was made by a highly respected Italian luthier, Giovanni Paolo Maggini. The orchestra paid a little over 3 million dollars for it. CUTE OTTER Now to a cheeky otter in the US state of Maryland who was captured on CCTV having a great time on the deck outside the local aquarium. While some in the US aren't too happy with the snow, this little fellow seems absolutely wrapped. CHOCOLATE TRAIN And finally to the longest chocolate sculpture in the world. Yes, in a video posted by Guinness World Records on their social media, the 55.27 metre long chocolate train is made up of 22 carriages, each weighing about 160 kilos! The chocolatier behind the sculpture is a third time world record breaker. __________________________________________ Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/behindthenews...
