When you think about expensive mega cities around the globe, you don’t usually also think about them turning into ghost towns. After all, major cities have millions of people living in them, and all the homes, amenities, shops, and more that they’d need. So it would take some pretty huge changes for every single person to move out of town. And yet, that exact thing has happened many times over the course of history. There are mega cities, of varying levels of extravagance, that have gone from booming and thriving, to being a total ghost town. In this video, we’re taking a look at some of the most glam cities around the globe and through history that have been totally abandoned. When you visit these places now (the ones you’re even allowed to visit) they are eerie and empty places. They are just skeletons of once great cities and towns. We talk about a Russian city that was once nicknamed “Capital of the World” but is now abandoned. We talk about the city in Australia that was the most densely populated in its region, but is now literally not on official maps of the country. We talk about a city in Turkmenistan that had the record for the most marble buildings in it, and the world’s largest Ferris wheel too. And now it’s a shell of its former self.
