Ensure scanner meets safety & diagnostic standards. Detect early technical issues before patient scans. 2️⃣ Types of CT Phantoms: Water Phantom: For CT number accuracy, noise, uniformity. ACR Phantom: For CT number, noise, uniformity, resolution, slice thickness. Anthropomorphic Phantom: For dose and anatomical simulation. 3️⃣ Preparation: Turn on CT scanner & let it warm up (as per manufacturer guidelines). Select appropriate phantom for test. Place phantom on table centered to gantry isocenter. Remove all unnecessary objects from scan field. 4️⃣ Positioning: Align phantom with laser lights in all three planes. For ACR phantom: Align central slice marker with scanner’s positioning light. Ensure table height matches isocenter. 5️⃣ Scanning Parameters: kVp: 120 (or per manufacturer QA protocol) mAs: 100–200 (as per test requirements) Slice thickness: 1–5 mm (depending on test type) Use standard head or body protocol depending on phantom type. 6️⃣ Scanning Process: Do an NCCT scan of the phantom. Save raw data and reconstructed images. Reconstruct axial slices at required thickness. 7️⃣ Measurements & QA Checks: CT Number Accuracy: Measure HU in water section (should be ~0 HU ± 5). Uniformity: Compare HU values in center vs periphery. Noise: Standard deviation of HU in uniform region. Slice Thickness: Check using ramp or wedge section. Low Contrast Resolution: Identify smallest visible low-contrast object. High Contrast Resolution: Identify smallest visible high-contrast lines/spaces. 8️⃣ Recording & Documentation: Enter all measurements into QA logbook.
