After two days of filming in New Orleans for “Goodbye Cleveland” with the Rob Reiner family (i.e., a few comedic parts), I only had a few hours to kill the third morning due to Hurricane Isaac shortening my hang time in the city. Didn’t know where I was going to park, yet I serendipitously landed at the House of Blues; and I just wanted to busk in the streets and sing to a city I respect… Before I could get to my guitar there was a commotion, met a dude named “Odie” that locked himself out of the car me bought the day prior; and he was infuriated. I told him to keep talking as I grabbed the guitar, played and sang, “…spending time with Odie is not your 9-to-5, etc.” Odie starting rappin’ on the instrumental breaks, was reinvigorated, thanked me and got busy solving his dilemma… Meanwhile, while comforted in the cobblestone archway of the House of Blues, the rain started coming down; and so did this riff and an entire song. Tears followed and I was aware enough to hit record on my phone… This version was recorded in June 2024 at American Recording Studios in Memphis, with my long standing genius of a friend, Emmy Award Winning Jadon Gillespie at the helm… Subsequently, I named our touring van “Odysseus” or “Odie” for short… RE: This will be the first single off the forthcoming album “Anima”.
