His journey to stardom began when he won a Filmfare talent contest in the late 1950s, which opened the doors of the film industry for him. Dharmendra made his Bollywood debut in 1960 with the film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. During the 1960s and 1970s, he rose to immense popularity, earning the title of “He-Man” of Indian cinema due to his powerful screen presence, strong physique, and action-packed roles. At the same time, he proved his versatility through romantic and emotional performances. Some of his most memorable films include Phool Aur Patthar, Anokhi Ada, Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyamev Jayate, and Pratiggya. Dharmendra also formed a successful on-screen pairing with leading actresses of his era, particularly Hema Malini, whom he later married. He has six children, including actor Sunny Deol and actress Esha Deol, both of whom followed him into the film industry. In addition to acting, Dharmendra has also been involved in film production and even served as a Member of Parliament in India.
