Desert Falcon, released for the Atari 7800 in 1988, is an isometric scrolling shooter developed by General Computer Corporation and published by Atari Corporation. Players take control of a majestic falcon flying across the desert to collect the Pharaoh's scattered treasures while facing various enemies inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology, including vultures, warriors, and flying fish. The game’s diagonally-scrolling, isometric perspective drew comparisons to the classic arcade game Zaxxon, offering a unique visual spin on arcade-style shooting. At the end of each level, a powerful sphinx boss challenges the player, requiring precise arrow shots to defeat it. Along the way, hieroglyphs in the sand can be collected to unlock "super powers" like invincibility, teleportation, bonus points, decoys, or air bombs that clear all airborne enemies, adding strategic depth to the gameplay. Developed by Bob Polaro, who also programmed the Atari 2600 version, Desert Falcon combines fast-paced action with puzzle-like elements, requiring players to navigate enemies and obstacles while optimizing power-ups. Its charming graphics, smooth falcon animation, and dynamic isometric environments make it a visually appealing retro shooter, even if some critics noted repetitive enemy designs. Desert Falcon remains a notable title in the Atari 7800 library, blending mythology, arcade-style shooting, and strategic power-up collection for fans of classic retro games. #vaultofpixels #atari #atari7800 #desertfalcon Playlist: • Atari -- 7800
