Why We Drive

A short video that explains why I do what I do. This is my friend bailey, he has been my best mate for 3 years now. And we constantly go for late night drives that people see as idiotic. But see the thing is, we don’t really care what people think. These things are never planned, it will be approaching midnight and a message will come through asking to meet at the car wash, even though we may have cleaned our cars 1 or 2 days ago however more likely than not, the other says “I’ll see you in 15”. We get to the car wash and sometimes we wash our cars, and sometimes we don’t. we can spend hours there just standing around talking. And sometimes we drive somewhere, and sometimes we remain in the same spot. we have had times where we are out driving until 4 or 5 am, and these are some of my best memories. We are not rolling in money, we are both teenagers on minimum wage, our cars have remained fairly stock, they are the kind that you see parked as far away as possible at a car meet. But this does not mean that we cannot enjoy our cars. Even though they on have 4 cylinders, sound like lawn mowers and are as fast as a bus, these are not reasons to not go for a drive. We drive because it’s a social event, a chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones. And this is the part that people do not understand. They ask, “why waste money by driving around with no real goal?” and I always reply with “we aren’t wasting money, instead of going out to clubs and spending our money that way, we do this”. Meeting up at the car wash and going for cruises has helped me remain good friends with bailey, but it has also allowed me to gain new friends at the same time. The car community has a bad reputation, but I can honestly say that when you surround yourself with the right people, nothing else can be more rewarding.
