Welcome to my channel for this special New Year's message! 😀 Man is a being desirous of preserving his life and satisfying his needs, in a world where resources are limited, randomly distributed, or require effort to obtain. From this reality stems a struggle: to wrest from others the resources he needs or to prevent them from taking those he possesses. These permanent rivalries for the same objects are amplified by the human desire for recognition and superiority, manifested through possessions and relations of power and dominance. Power, domination, and war are universal and long-standing solutions used to secure these material needs and social status. Scarcity produces competition; competition engenders the desire for dominance; dominance arouses resistance and fear, which in turn fuel the need for ever-expanding power. This desire for power—manifested by the maintenance, increase, or demonstration of one's own reach over others—can become an end in itself. It is also about obtaining the recognition and acceptance by the other of their own inferiority; domination is only complete when the dominated internalizes their own servitude... Man dominates his fellow man, subdues him, and wages war against him because the very logic of his condition leads him inexorably there, a dynamic further stimulated by fear, honor, and self-interest. Thus, perpetually in quest of resources, bolstered by his capacity to annihilate others, selfish, greedy for power, and driven by his will to potency, Man exercises domination, wages war, and destroys, all due to his eternal flaws and weaknesses. 📊 THE HUMAN TOLL: For the 20th and 21st centuries, there is no universally recognized estimate of the total number of victims from wars and genocides. ▪️ 20th CENTURY: between 110 and 230 million deaths. ▪️ 21st CENTURY: between 1.4 and 6.8 million deaths (to date). These figures are cold and in no way reflect the terror, the physical and psychic suffering, the abyssal void left by loss, and the cohort of misfortunes that wars engender. All that has been said is hardly flattering to Mankind, yet it is a realistic observation. What then should be done with this humanity that, nevertheless, knows just as well how to do good, how to share, and sometimes how to give itself to the point of sacrifice for a fellow human? ✨ TOWARD NEW UTOPIAS: To commit fervently toward solutions that are utopian today but could, in time, shape a new world, if they were embraced by all: 1️⃣ FIRST UTOPIA: Empowering women. In 2023, they represented only about 11% of the 151 elected heads of state worldwide, and less than 10% were heads of government across 193 states. Although some are not devoid of a will to power similar to that of men, certain facts must be acknowledged: women are infinitely less murderous (80% to 90% of homicides globally are committed by men) and men largely predominate in the history of authoritarian and dictatorial power. Would a world with women in power be less warlike and more humanistic? It is a hope. 2️⃣ SECOND UTOPIA: Virtual catharsis. Divert toward virtual universes the bellicose instinct that many men cannot discard. Real stakes would be contested there, conflicts would be resolved, but without the inherent deaths. The winner could savor their glory, as winning in the virtual world would have acquired the same social value as a victory in the real world. Virtual catharsis is a beautiful utopia that, with the will of a majority of individuals, could come to life. Simultanously, we must educate differently, in values of sharing, unconditional respect for others, fraternity, and sorority, starting from the earliest age. A fundamental task to be carried out over several generations. May 2026 be the year when war began to take the path toward the only status that suits it: AN ANTIQUITY OF THE PAST.
