"Last Date" is a 1960 instrumental written and performed by Floyd Cramer. It exemplifies the "slip note" style of piano playing that Cramer made popular. It peaked at number 11 on the country chart and at number two on the Hot 100 behind "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" by Elvis Presley Cramer's recording inspired a large number of successful cover versions, including a vocal adaptation by Conway Twitty. I try to play Cramer’s slip note which seems well suited to the open tuning I use. Naturally, I play it in Open D, my standard for most open tuning on dobros and slide guitars. It’s tuned D-A-D-F#-A-D. My other most commonly used tuning is Open G ... D-G-D-G-B-D. I’ve also got a couple tunes in Open D minor, D-A-D-F-A-D and D-A-D-D-A-D, which duplicates the 3rd and 4th strings. That too, has a minor sound to it. Please pardon my many mistakes. This is a hard one I’ve played on my lighter-strung acoustic guitars. I just had to see how it sounds on a dobro-style resonator guitar. I think it came out okay ... ❤️🎶 #countryblues #deltablues #deltajets #blues #slideguitar • Last Date (Floyd Cramer, 1960) played by D...
