For the last couple of years I've been telling myself and my wife that I would start wearing a helmet at age 50. Well, I've been 50 for a few months now and since weather is getting better I get to parks a lot more which typically have bigger obstacles, ramps & bowls - things a man of my age should be wearing safety equipment for. The helmet has been in the garage now for several months and with a Sunday afternoon trip to Beech Acres Skatepark, I figured it was time to do the right thing and armor up! The park was incredibly empty considering the decent weather, but that just meant more space for me to roll around and try things without bothering anyone else. This empty park also gave me the opportunity to try bowl skating without prying eyes or some other skater telling me how to do it. I gained confidence in abundance by getting my back truck over the coping on a backside slash a few times and can't wait to get back at it.
