Today at Aastha Geriatric Centre, Dr. Shukla performed and explained ascitic tapping, a procedure used to remove excess fluid from the abdominal cavity of a patient with chronic liver disease. Ascitic tapping, also known as paracentesis, is vital for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It helps relieve the discomfort caused by fluid buildup (ascites) and also allows the extraction of fluid for lab testing, essential in diagnosing the underlying cause of the ascites. In this case, a 20ml syringe and a blood set needle were used, which proved more suitable for the patient's condition. The ascitic fluid collected will be tested for markers of tuberculosis, cancer, protein levels, and albumin, among others, to guide the diagnosis and ensure the most accurate treatment plan. By examining the fluid, we can understand if the ascites is caused by liver cirrhosis, infection, heart failure, or malignancy, allowing us to provide the patient with the best possible care. #AasthaCares #AsciticTapping #ChronicLiverDisease #AscitesCare #GeriatricCare #DiagnosticTesting #FluidAnalysis #PalliativeCare #ElderlyHealth #LiverHealth #sajournalofgeriatric #aasthahospice #drabhishekshukla #geriatriccare #geriatrician #palliativecare #palliativenursing
