Is it a good idea to go out and buy the cheapest big block that we could find in local listings? Probably not, but only one way to find out exactly how poorly it could go! We found an ad for this “88-89” Suburban 454 (7.4L) in need of a rebuild, and couldn't resist the $200 price tag. Our 1978 Pontiac Firebird has always been begging for some sort of muscle car street cred and the easiest way to get there is a dirt-cheap big block swap. The plans don't end there, certainly, but every story has to start somewhere!
