Finally, feel free to drop me an email using the contact information in my YouTube bio. *** In my last video, I discussed what seem to me to be the important differences between Stoicism and the the law of attraction. In upcoming videos, I want to discuss some of the history of the idea of the law of attraction, to get a better sense of whether this idea has any plausibility, and to provide a bit more of a framework for thinking about it. Since most of its contemporary advocates are popular-level writers, it can be difficult to define exactly what should be included in the idea of the law of attraction. But from what I can tell, most people agree that it has some connection to the nineteenth-century New Thought movement. I’m going to rely on a contemporary of the early New Thought movement, the Harvard philosopher William James, to help us learn a bit more about it.
