Tutorial : : Creating Data-Driven Graphics in Photoshop

Learn how to set up and use Photoshop's variable data functionality to quickly create multiple versions of the same graphic. Typically, this is used when you need to create 30, 100, 200 or even more versions of a graphic, not when you just need a few. Use it to change text, such as a phone number, or swap out one image for another. Overview: 1) Create a layered Photoshop file. Each variable you want needs to be on a separate layer. 2) Create a csv file of the data to be imported. Each column is a variable. Each row is a file to be output. For images, put in the location of the images. You can use the Finder's "get info" command to see the path to the file. 3) In Photoshop, define the variables under the image menu. 4) Import the data to the data set. 5) Export to data set. Note that files can only be output as psd files. If you need a different file type, they'll need to be batch processed after the fact. This tutorial uses Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Microsoft Excel.
