Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here from etrailer, and today, we're taking a look and installing the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver on a 2025 Chevy Equinox EV. Adding a trailer hitch receiver to your Equinox is a great way to add a lot of real estate and just be able to go on more adventures with your same vehicle. So whether you're loading a cargo carrier, a bike rack, or even pulling a small trailer, this is gonna be a requirement to do so. And the Draw-Tite that we have today is really clean. I mean it's a hidden cross tube, so really the only thing that you're gonna see visible when installed is gonna be the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening and the safety chain loops. And being that it is two inch by two inch, that's kind of the standard size for receivers. So that way, when you're choosing bike racks, cargo carriers, and ball mounts, you're gonna have a ton of options available. Now all of the accessories that you'll be loading up into this hitch are gonna be using a 5/8 pin and clip. A lot of times when you pick up an accessory, they'll have them included with them, and that's gonna be a great option for you to get it in place. But if you plan on leaving your accessory on the back of your Equinox, I'd recommend probably getting a locking pin and clip. It's a really good deterrent. That way people can't just walk by, take out your pin and clip, and take those accessories with them. Your rolled-style safety chain loops are nice and open. So if you do plan on pulling a trailer, hooking up those safety chains will be nice and easy with a larger clevis-style or even a standard S hook. And that's something that's gonna be important with this hitch as well as any hitch that you put on a vehicle is gonna be weight capacities when especially towing a trailer, but also loading up accessories. And this one, even though it's a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, this falls into a lower weight capacity class. So as far as gross trailer weight rating, that's the weight of the trailer plus the accessories loaded, that's gonna come in at 1,500 pounds on this vehicle. So it's not terribly large, but that still could be a small little utility trailer or even a small jet ski or something along those lines. Now, tongue weight really comes into play when you're having those accessories in place, like a cargo care or bike rack. It's gonna be that suspended weight or the weight that's put on the inside of the receiver tube opening. And it comes in at 350 pounds, which is a good tongue weight, especially if you're using it for a bike rack or cargo carrier. Generally that means you can use a four-bike bike rack, depending on the weight of the bikes, or load up a cargo carrier on vacation, and you shouldn't have any issues going over that weight capacity. But you do wanna check the vehicle's owner's manual before hooking up and towing, and checking to see what the vehicle's rated to tow before just hooking up and using the capacities off the hitch. Take the lowest number, that way you stay safe. Now some cargo carriers and bike racks can stow in a vertical position to shorten the overall length of the vehicle. And to make sure that it works on your vehicle, measuring from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest point of the fascia, we're coming in at four inches. So I don't worry too much that you're gonna have issues with it being able to fold up. You might wanna just check the breakover length of the shank of that accessory you're gonna be looking at. But keep in mind when those are in that vertical position, it's more than likely gonna block your rear view camera, your license plate, and even potentially your brake lights and turn signals. You probably won't be able to open up your hatch, but you can just simply drop that down and then still gain access. Something else that's gonna be important is gonna be our ground clearance, and for a few reasons. But first, we got top of the CV tube opening to the ground is gonna be 12 and a half inches. That's gonna be important to keep in mind when you have accessories loaded as far as cargo carriers and bike racks because as you go up an incline, those are gonna want to tilt towards the ground. So just keep that in mind when you see those large inclines or large bumps, you do
