The eighteenth Pāsuram of Thiruppāvai highlights the Gopīs turning to Nappinnai Pirātti — the divine consort of Krishna — as their mediator. Realizing that Krishna has not awakened despite all their attempts, they understand that approaching Nappinnai with devotion is the most effective way to gain access to Him. They praise Nappinnai as the powerful and graceful daughter-in-law of mighty Nandagopa, comparing her strength to that of a majestic elephant and admiring her fragrant, beautiful hair. They urge her to open the door, pointing out the roosters crowing from all directions and the cuckoos singing from the decorated pavilions. They lovingly request her, whose fingers skillfully hold the ball and whose hands resemble blooming red lotuses, to come forward with her jingling bangles and joyfully open the door. Through her grace, they hope to sing the holy names of her beloved Lord Krishna. This verse reflects the deep devotion of the Gopīs, who honor Nappinnai as the compassionate intermediary capable of awakening the Lord and granting them divine access.
