Ghana: President-elect Mahama's Supporters Attack Institutions, 100 Arrested | Firstpost Africa Political chaos grips Ghana after presidential and parliamentary polls. Police have arrested more than 100 people over acts of lawlessness. Most of the arrested include supporters of President-elect John Mahama. His supporters, who seek jobs under the incoming administration, allegedly attacked state institutions, looted properties and engaged in disturbances. The angry supporters allegedly torched two electoral commission offices over the delay in presidential election result announcement and disagreements over parliamentary poll results. The violence left some police and military personnel injured. Mahama has condemned the violence and asked his supporters to exercise restraint. He also urged incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo and security agencies to "act decisively" to curb the violence. On December 9, Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) party won both presidential and parliamentary elections. The NDC leader secured a second term in office after serving as the president between 2012 and 2017.
