Massive Rally Held Before Legislative Council Building to Oppose "Hong Kong Independence"

People from 18 districts of Hong Kong rallied in front of the Legislative Council building Sunday afternoon to support the National People's Congress (NPC)'s interpretation of Article 104 of the Hong Kong Basic Law and oppose the so-called "Hong Kong independence." Nearly 500 organizations including the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions and the Heung Yee Kuk, and more than 50,000 people from all walks of life launched the rally in the Tamar Park at 16:00. They expressed firm objection to "Hong Kong independence" and national secession, and their endorsement for the NPC's interpretation. Also, they urged to disqualify the Legislative Council membership of those members-elect who have insulted the Chinese nation and supported "Hong Kong independence." An increasing number of people and organizations kept joining in the rally, so crowding the overpass that police force is needed to maintain order. The rally participants shouting patriotic slogans spoke highly of the NPC's interpretation and expected the Hong Kong Special Administration Region government to comprehensively put in place the provisions in the Basic Law and the NPC's interpretation. They said that the interpretation safeguards national security and territorial integrity and therefore constitutes a timely and indispensible action to ensure the full implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems" and rule of law in Hong Kong. "Thousands of Hong Kong people are here to utter one loud and just voice to Hong Kong, to China and to the world at large. For a long time, the force for 'Hong Kong independence' has been so savage and takes us for nothing," said a participant. "Today 50,000 of us gather here to voice our heart: The NPC's interpretation is a silver bullet. It is the most important panacea.
