The spectacular Salten region boasts steep mountains, glaciers, numerous tidal streams, and extraordinary fjords. It stretches from the Ofoten Islands in the north to Helgeland in the south and offers an alternative to the E6, via a detour along the coast, with exciting attractions. The Helgeland Coast Scenic Route offers a contrasting driving experience, with a changing character, from long mountain ranges to a more tranquil natural setting with archipelagos and islands far out at sea. The Svartisen Glacier, in particular, shines again, this time from the Holandsfjord. Even from a distance, its location is fascinating: sheltered yet clearly visible. Peaceful rest areas offer repeated opportunities to quietly admire the surroundings and their vegetation along the water. Architectural features cleverly integrated into the landscape also stand out, highlighting this region in an exciting way. We depart from Svolvaer in the Lofoten Islands and take the ferry to Skutvik. Our destination is the Tømmerneset region near Inhavet. The nearby Sagelva cliff in the Steigen region inspires us with its particularly striking geology and preserved features from the Stone Age. Further west, Brennviksanden in Brennvika Bay impresses with its seemingly untouched nature. A temptation for nature and landscape enthusiasts in every respect. Southwest of Fauske, the Godoystraumen and Saltstraumen fjords follow the exciting tidal currents along the Helgeland coast. Natural wonders in a unique landscape that are a must-see. Passing the Nordfjorden, Urreddplassen awaits us, a unique viewpoint over the sea with views as far as the Lofoten Wall and a setting for World War II history. Passing Reipa, we reach the Holandsfjorden. The symbiosis of the mountain scenery surrounding the fjord, coupled with the Svartisen glacier, underscores the indescribably beautiful panoramas in a tranquil setting. A ferry ride takes us to Tjongsfjord, a fjord seemingly isolated from the outside world, with a view of Bjørntinden, whose flattened peak captivates our gaze. With the next ferry, we cross the Arctic Circle south and reach Sjonafjord. From here, the Hellaga rest area offers us the opportunity to take in the picturesque surroundings in peace.
