The monastic complex consists of a church with destroyed dome, a narthex and the ancient book depository. The construction of the church dates back to 1205 which is evidenced by the inscription on the facade of the building. Rough-hewn stone elements of different shapes and sizes were used to erect the architectural monument. Entrance to the church is decorated with cross stones and only one window illuminates the inner room on the west side. The abandoned monastery attracts fans of the unknown. HOW TO GET MATOSAVANK MONASTERY FROM YEREVAN? The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to Matosavank monastery by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country.
