Ready to start growing your houseplant collection but unsure how to determine what type of light you get? There are four general types of lighting we receive indoors. Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn the difference between bright light, medium light, low light, and full sun. Full sun environments are great for plants like Tropical Hibiscus, Citrus & Succulents. Bright, indirect light is great for many common flowering plants like Orchids and Anthurium as well as plants with brightly colored foliage. Plants like Chinese Evergreens and Stromanthe prefer medium light. Remember, the more variegation the foliage has the more light that particular plant needs. Some of our low light loving favorites include Neanthe Bella Palms, Calathea, ZZ Plants & Snake Plants. Fun fact: 12-14 hours of florescent lighting is sufficient for houseplants requiring medium light.
