I thought I was going to have to get a machine shop to press out the bushings my SuperBeetle's control arms. Turns out the ball joint tool set that I rented for another purpose was perfect. I'm refurbishing my 1972 SuperBeetle (all my videos relating to that car are here: • 1972 VW engine rebuild Vlog 1: valv... . Before I stopped driving it the last time, it had developed a pretty bad "super-shimmy": a vibration from 35 to 50 mph. I'm going through the front suspension and replacing all the wear parts to try to fix that. This bushing removal was the one step that I hadn't really figured out how to do, short of going to a machine shop.
