This is a traditional Passover dish you can easily make yourself, and the leftovers make a great filling for apple pie. WARNING: This recipe contains nuts. If you’re making it for someone with a nut allergy, check the substitution recommendations below. Ingredients: 2 large Granny Smith apples 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon salt 2 cups toasted walnuts 1/2 cup dark raisins 1 1/2 teaspoons honey or granulated sugar 1/3 cup kosher sweet wine Preparation: Step 1: Slice the apples and remove the cores. Step 2: Place the apples, cinnamon, salt, walnuts, raisins, and honey, into the bowl of a food processor. Step 3: Pulse once or twice to mix and begin chopping. Step 4: Add the wine and pulse until the consistency is how you prefer it. Step 5: Taste. Depending on your wine of choice, this may need a little bit more honey. Substitutions: 1: To avoid nut allergies, you can use toasted pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds to achieve the same texture, but during Passover (depending on how you celebrate), seeds like this may be considered kitniyot, and you wouldn’t be able to use them. 2: If you don’t want to use wine, red grape juice is a fine substitution.
