Doc Pawsitive, Clair Thompson, "Leader of the Pack" at East Stroudsburg Veterinary Hospital and PAWS/Pocono Animal Wellness Services loves his job as a small animal veterinarian, and Fridays are one of the reasons! At East Stroudsburg Veterinary Hospital Doc Pawsitive performs many different surgical procedures for his clients, as well as a variety of local animal rescue organizations including AWSOM, Camp Papillon, Pike County Humane Society and others. What Dr Clair really enjoys is the variety of surgical procedures that are scheduled and the challenge of scheduling, preparing and performing so many surgeries in one day! Many owners bring their pet in for surgery on Friday and drop their loved one off at 830am for surgery. Some owners start calling the office within the hour to see how their pet did with surgery, only to learn that there may be 20 other surgeries being performed the same day, maybe even before their pets' procedure. The key to performing such a large number of procedures is having an efficient team of health care team members to handle admissions, nurses to prep and assist with surgeries, receptionists to handle client calls and inquiries and veterinary assistants to prepare the surgical instrument packs, walk the dogs, assist pets recovering from anesthesia and help handle discharge appointments at the end of the long day. Doc Pawsitive loves the challenge and camraderie of surgery days and looks forward to a very full surgery board to start the day! As you watch this video you can appreciate the challenges of getting so much done and the need to have everything tracked in an efficient manner. As the video goes along you can also sense the fatigue settling in after 6, 8 or 10 hours of operating, but Dr Clair wouldn't have it any other way!
