Active safety systems become standard Redesigned front and rear fascias LED headlights and taillights standard Ability to disable engine start/stop system Price: The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse starts at $33,700. Pricing can climb to $53,400 for the loaded High Country AWD model. The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse competes in the heart of the family-SUV market. Its rivals include other popular 3-row crossover SUVs like the Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, and Honda Pilot, plus newer upstarts such as the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade. The Traverse has an advantage over rivals in size and cargo capacity. It is larger than competitors, and, thanks to a price that historically starts lower, appeals to families and active individuals who appreciate a lot of metal for the money. Seating for up to eight, a standard V6 engine, and the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds are also appealing. With its update for 2022, the Chevy Traverse has rectified prior downsides. Notably, all models now include a suite of active safety features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and pedestrian detection, just like rivals. We also appreciate that its engine start/stop system can finally be disabled with the press of a button. Adaptive cruise control — standard on several rivals — still costs extra and there isn’t a hybrid option like in the Highlander and Explorer. But with this year’s updates, the Traverse now competes nearly toe-to-toe with leaders in this segment. The 2022 Traverse also gets a nice tech upgrade with available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A twin-panel sunroof is also available, as is a new rear power sunshade. Exterior Styling Stretching over 204 inches, the Traverse is the big kid among the midsize SUV class. That is nearly 10 inches longer than a Toyota Highlander and a reason for the Traverse’s impressive interior space. For 2022, the Traverse gets a mild exterior freshening with a revised grille, updated front and rear fascias, and more aggressive LED headlight signatures. RS Traverse models have a sportier look, while High Country models are flashier with chrome and 20-inch wheels. Standard Features The Chevrolet Traverse includes a V6 engine, multi-zone climate control, touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and USB ports in all three rows – great for charging digital devices. A full suite of active safety systems is also now standard, as is GM’s subscription-based OnStar connected services with 4G LTE and in-vehicle Wi-Fi. Factory Options All-wheel drive (AWD) can be had in lieu of the standard front-wheel drive. Stepping up trims brings amenities like leather upholstery, a power liftgate, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, and upgraded audio. The Rear Camera Mirror is a neat feature that enables the rearview mirror to project a live and unobstructed view via the use of a camera. Heated and ventilated front seats are available on higher trims, as is wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Adaptive cruise control is now available on more trims, starting at the LT level. A new Safety Alert Seat that vibrates the driver’s seat to warn of a danger — like backing up too close to an object – is standard on Premier and High Country models. Engine & Transmission The Traverse uses a 3.6-liter V6 that makes an ample 310 horsepower. The engine is tied to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Traverse comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) is optional and a good choice if you live where it snows or roads can be slick. For maximum traction, the Traverse High Country adds a dual-clutch transfer system that can automatically adjust the amount of torque going to each rear wheel, further preventing slippage. The Chevy Traverse SUV is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds when optioned with the trailering package. The 2022 Traverse has an engine idle start/stop feature that can now be disabled. 3.6-liter V6 310 horsepower @ 6,800 rpm 266 lb-ft of torque @ 2,800 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 18/27 mpg (FWD), 17/25 mpg (AWD)
