Hang-on-back filters don't get the love and attention they deserve. Even I spend most of my time on canister and sump filtration systems and seldom get into hang-on-back filters. The truth is that HOBs are a GREAT filtering option. They are flexible, inexpensive and do a great job at both cleaning and creating water movement (adding oxygen). They are also very easy to service and often inexpensive. Here I talk about the HOB on my 60 gal. grow-out tank, which works in conjunction with two SunSun 302-B's canisters to provide perfect conditions. The filter is a Marineland Emperior 400 that I picked up for next to nothing when it was included in with a used aquarium.
