#IndiaAtUN Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, Permanent Representative, delivered India’s statement at the quarterly UNSC meeting on Afghanistan. He highlighted: ➡️ 🇮🇳 and 🇦🇫 share a civilizational relationship. ➡️ 🇮🇳 has paramount interest in 🇦🇫’s peace and stability and is actively engaging with regional and international partners. ➡️ 🇮🇳's priorities include provision of humanitarian assistance and capacity building initiatives. ➡️ 🇮🇳 was among the first countries that provided assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake this month. ➡️ 🇮🇳 closely monitors the security situation in 🇦🇫. International community must coordinate efforts towards ensuring that UNSC designated entities and individuals, including the LeT and JeM and their sponsors no longer exploit Afghan territory for terrorist activities. ➡️ EAM Dr S. Jaishankar has spoken with Acting FM of 🇦🇫. ➡️ 🇮🇳 welcomes the strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack by the Afghan side. ➡️ Any coherent policy to address a post-conflict situation must incentivize positive behaviour and disincentivize harmful actions. An approach focused only on punitive measures is unlikely to succeed. ➡️ A “business as usual” approach is not good for 🇦🇫. ➡️ The earthquake has made the situation of Afghan people even more dire. ➡️ 🇮🇳’s commitment to meeting developmental needs of the people of 🇦🇫 is non-negotiable.
