On Saturday 12th November 2022, Purcell students took to the stage for an evening recital at the prestigious Wigmore Hall. The soloists and duos who took part all made their Wigmore Hall debuts. No fewer than 58 students applied and auditioned to take part, making this recital not only a celebration of all that the performers had already achieved but of what they will come to achieve in the future. Phoebe - Piano Scarlatti Sonata in G major K125 Brahms Rhapsody No.1 in B minor op.79 Prokofiev March from 'The Love for Three Oranges' Rowena - Recorder Hans Martin Linde Music for a Bird Ekaterina - Oboe Rubbra Sonata in C for Oboe and Piano 1st mvt Francisca - Violin, Samuel - Piano Ernst Mahle Sonatina (1974) for Violin and Piano Aaron - Harp Henriette Renie Ballade Fantastique Emma - Cello Shostakovich Sonata for cello & piano in D minor, Op. 40 1st movement Andrea - Violin Lutosławski Subito Benji - Piano Bach Prelude and Fugue in E flat, WTC II Chopin Scherzo in B flat minor no.2, op.31 Silvestri Bacchanale from Suite no.3 op.6, no.1 The Purcell School is one of the worlds’ finest schools for young musicians aged 10 to 18 and the oldest music school in the UK. Based in Hertfordshire, just outside of London, the School provides a rounded education with music at its heart to around 180 talented students, most of whom go on to the top conservatoires and colleges for music, often with scholarships. Whilst at Purcell, students share a common bond in their passion for music with a community boasting creativity and mutual support.
