I decided I wanted to install a headlight on my 2014 KTM 300 xc(2stroke), but options out there were either limited or expensive. I saw the Acerbis VSL LED headlight, and decided that was the one. However the challenge was, the VSL is a 12v DC headlight and the XC, while didn't come with a headlight, had wiring for an AC light. After much internet researching and googling, I learned a few key things: 1. The carbureted KTM 250 and 300 xc has the same wiring harness and stator as the xc-w. This includes several years of bike, back as far as 2008 (or older) up to when they make the switch to TPI. 2. The stator puts out 100 watts. Only 30 on the DC charging circuit for the battery, and the VSL requires 48 watts. Which is why I couldn't wire the light directly to the battery. However, the AC side of the stator gets the other 70 watts, so it's plenty to run the light. Especially considering the stator and wire harness run a headlight and tail light on the xc-w bikes. 3. The VSL is a direct plug and play swap for the TPI xc-w bikes, but NOT the TPI xc bikes. 4. Baja designs is an awesome company with great customer service, and they make a rectifier with KTM style plugs already on it. This video is only intended to be a guide, please do your own research before installing. Items needed: Acerbis VSL headlight.
