LMS 46233 The Duchess of Sutherland was the motive power for The Midday Scot railtour operated by the Railway Touring company starting from Manchester Victoria to Edinburgh over the famous inclines of Shap and Beattock . DB Cargo replaced West Coast crews on the footplate due to the suspension still being in place . We first see 46233 near Bay Horse before the water stop at Carnforth and we then move onto Shap to see the Duchess struggling up the 1 in 75 bank at Salterwath . The next shot sees 46233 Thundering up Beattock bank in the sunshine at Harthorpe with the final shot shortly after 46233 left the loop at Beattock summit . I was told that 46233 had some bad coal on the climb of Shap hence the crawl with the coal being changed at Carlisle . Thanks to David ( Linesider)for the Harthorpe location directions .
