Self watering containers are great if you don't get around to watering regularly. Today I built one with the assistance of my wife, Lindsay. We give step by step instructions so you too can build one. Earth Box - http://earthbox.com/ Global Bucket - http://www.globalbuckets.org/ Blog time - http://palmer.attaway.me My wife's channel - / lindsaysmoovees As I could not reply to a request for written instruction in the comment because youtube has issues with the number of characters one can use. I'll do it here.... here you go. I think I can do that. Supplies: Plastic tub with a lid Two "small" planting pots (cheap plastic) A PVC pipe as long as your tub is deep. (Vague, sorry.) Knife of some kind (utility or exacto) Drill Drill bit (like ½ inch or so) Steps: 1. (Thanks John Finnegan) Drill holes in the lid of your tub... lots of holes. Like... lots of holes. You want the excess water to filter down through them. 2. Cut the lid to a width that's big enough it won't fall all the way down into your tub but small enough that it will sit down inside. Again, this is vague because I don't know how big your tub will be or how deep it is, but it's probably going to be an inch or two off the edge. You'll have to play with it. 3. Cut a section from two corners of the lid for your "cheap plastic pots" that will be your wicking containers. 4. Slit or drill holes in your "cheap plastic" pots. I didn't do this in the video, but it would have worked better. 5. Cut a hole in your lid for your pipe. 6. Cut your pipe at an angle or put a notch in it or both like I did. This angled end will be the bottom of your pipe. 7. Put your lid into your tub, put your cheap plastic pots in your lid. Put your pipe in your lid. 8. Find the edge of your lid inside your tub and drill two holes just below it. This lets water drain. 9. Fill your plastic pots and pack them tight. 10. Fill your box with whatever dirt mixture you'd like. You don't need to pack this tightly. Loose is good. 11. Plant your seeds.
