Preludes are widely spread in almost all eras of the classical guitar repertory. Just think of the "luteworks" of Bach or Tarrega, Ponce, Villa-Lobos. One of the eldest, and for that reason authentic preludes is this Preludium by John Dowland (found in the Lutebook of Lady Margaret Board, a manuscript collection of lute music started between 1615-1620). It's a kind of written improvisation, that nevertheless fulfills composition criteria.
