After nearly a decade of constructing a 1.9-mile subway extension with many twists and turns, the Regional Connector project is done and now fully operational. Los Angeles's second underground subway opened for the first time since the opening of phase one of the Metro Red Line back in 1993. I became the first railfanner to film and record a cab view from Union Station and Pico/Aliso to 7th St/Metro Center from a Blue Line inaugural train (P3010 1153), then later filmed the east side tunnel from an Expo Line train (P3010 1060). With the new connector connecting the Blue, Expo, and Gold Lines, it'll now be split into two lines, Blue Line now goes from Azusa to Long Beach, and the Expo Line from East LA to Santa Monica. The Gold Line naming has officially retired, and while it may be hard to say a color or letter line from an unusual location, you'll get used to it within time, or if you're like me, continue being old school and still call it whatever you want even when the Gold Line has been left in the past. Hope everyone enjoys this historic moment as it will be the new norm for all Angelinos living along those light rail lines. Also, apologies for my voice being exposed in this video, these people had to distract me while filming.
