Scripture explains how the Word was inspired but does not explain how the books where selected. This is an overlooked distinction between divine inspiration and human canonization. Therefor what did “God-Breathed” mean to the biblical writers of the day; how did the early church understood inspiration; what where the historical criteria used to recognise authoritative writings; what where the criteria for Apostolic authorship. The early canons looked very different to what we are familiar with today. In this presentation we see the origins and the role of the Apocrypha in early scripture. We take a brief view into insights from books like Judith and Wisdom of Solomon. We question why these books were removed from Protestant Bibles in 1885, but why the 1611 King James used the Apocrypha, leading us to ask what is the spiritual significance and differences outside of the canon. We consider the 2nd century Muratorian Fragment which excludes Hebrews, James, and 2 Peter but included the Wisdom of Solomon and the Apocalypse of Peter and look at Martin Luther who moved entire texts to the back of the Bible. This is our history kept silent, where we begin to see how scripture was also shaped by councils and debate. So, one of the questions is, how did something so Ruach-breathed emerge from a human process? What we discover is that the Apocrypha is not, “forbidden books” or “heretical” but sacred hidden texts and the bridging gap between the Old Testament and New Testament.
