A great jazz tune, "Killer Joe" by Benny Golson This lesson will be looking at 3 important areas you need to know for any jazz standard. 1) The Head (Melody) - is written out in quasi chord solo version. 2) The Comping (Chords) - The 'A' section uses a simple rhythm, a different 13th chord voicing in each 'A' section, the 'B' section uses some simply chord voicings play in an arpeggiated style. 3) The Solo - The 1st 'A' section and the bridge are written out, watch the video for a more in-depth explanation of the arpeggios, scales, and other tools used in coming-up with the solo, the other 'A' sections are improvised and a great place to try out your own ideas.
