In this episode of JSM Travel & Tours, we discover why Camiguin is called the Island Born of Fire—home to 14 volcanoes and countless adventures waiting to be explored. We first traveled back in time to 1521, where stories say Ferdinand Magellan once docked before heading to Bohol. History comes alive at the century-old tree and the ruins of the Old Church, a solemn reminder of Camiguin’s past. Next stop at Mantigue Island, where its white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters set the stage for an unforgettable snorkeling experience. Swimming alongside pawikans, schools of fish, and vibrant corals was truly magical even if visits here are limited to 3–4 hours, every moment was worth it. Of course, nature’s beauty is everywhere here. At Tuasan Falls, the island’s 2nd tallest waterfall, we were refreshed by its cool mist—no long hike required. Then came unique surprises: dipping into a cold spring, tasting natural soda water at the Soda Pool, and diving into the Sunken Cemetery, where an underwater cross marks the site of an old town swallowed by the sea. Eerie yet breathtaking, the marine life here is abundant and vibrant. And what’s a trip without food? From bed-and-breakfasts to specialty restaurants, Camiguin delivers flavors you won’t forget. A highlight of our journey was meeting the locals from KASAMMA, a community working hand-in-hand for shared success. (Bonus: we couldn’t get enough of their fried squid—crispy, tasty, and addicting!) Camiguin may be the 2nd smallest island in the Philippines, but it’s overflowing with history, beauty, and heart.
