Funeral for Turkey's First Fallen Soldier Killed From Turkish Military Incursion in Syria

Footage from a Turkish news agency, DHA, shows a funeral service being held for what Turkey says is the first soldier killed in action during Turkey's military incursion in Syria, known as Operation 'Peace Spring,' Ankara, Turkey, Saturday, October 12. The country's defense minister and vice president paid their respects to the fallen soldier's family while attending the ceremony. Turkey has said it aims to push back Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) which has been fighting a decades-long Kurdish insurgency within its own borders. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Turkey won't stop until the YPG, which forms the backbone of the U.S.-backed ground force against the Islamic State group, withdraws below a 32 kilometer (20 mile) deep line from the border. Early Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump said the U.S. is withdrawing all remaining troops from northern Syria. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said on Fox television Sunday that there will be a "deliberate withdrawal" of the last 1,000 U.S. troops from northern Syria.
