Ventura County In-Office Balloon Sinuplasty Procedure - Explained by Dr. Feinfield. Visit us online for more information at https://www.bellavistaent.com/ Dr. Jeffrey Feinfield, Otolaryngologist and Facial Plastic Surgeon explains how the In-Office Balloon Sinuplasty procedure works. What happens with the balloon once your sinuses have been dilated and why it's different from an angioplasty procedure. Dr. Feinfield has been using this innovative treatment for more than five years serving Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Ventura County and all of Los Angeles. Video transcript: People often ask the question, "How does this balloon sinuplasty work and does the balloon actually stay in the nose?" In fact, no it doesn't. Although in thought, it's very similar to an angioplasty where the heart vessels are dilated but in this case, the balloon is just a tool for us. It's a tool that gently dilates without cutting. That way, once the sinuses open the balloon is removed and there's nothing permanent and no packing. What happens is I often describe the balloon sinuplasty and what's going on in the sinuses is similar to when you crack a hard-boiled egg. When the egg is cracked that egg remains dented, even after the force is removed. And that position stays open permanently. The procedure itself, we use our endoscopic equipment like we use in the operating room. There is a television monitor that I operate off of and the tiny little endoscope goes inside the nose. We then insert this balloon catheter inside the actual sinus opening and the balloon is inflated and the sinus passage is gently opened. This usually takes less than half an hour and the patient usually feels minimal discomfort if any.
