(31 Mar 2025) ASSOCIATED PRESS Beijing - 31 March 2025 Spokesperson: Guo Jiakun Duration: 6:25 STORYLINE: 1. We noticed that after the earthquake in Myanmar, China immediately expressed condolences and provided disaster relief assistance. Can you provide more details? Currently, about 400 Chinese earthquake experts, rescuers, and medical personnel are participating in earthquake relief efforts across Myanmar. The Chinese rescue team has already rescued six survivors. China has announced an emergency humanitarian aid of 100 million RMB to Myanmar, providing urgently needed supplies such as tents, first aid kits, food, and drinking water. The first batch of supplies has already arrived in Myanmar, and the Red Cross Society of China has also provided disaster relief supplies. Natural disasters are merciless, but there is love in the world. China will uphold the friendship between China and Myanmar, work together with Myanmar to overcome difficulties, seize the golden 72 hours to fully search and rescue survivors, treat the injured, and deliver aid supplies to the hands of people affected by the disaster. We believe that with the support of the international community, the government and people of Myanmar will be able to unite and overcome the disaster, and rebuild their homes. 2. Are there any Chinese casualties in the earthquake? So far, it has been found that the strong earthquake in Myanmar has resulted in the death of one Chinese citizen and injuries to 15 others. The Chinese embassy and consulates in Myanmar are assisting the families of the deceased with the aftermath. The Chinese embassy and consulates will continue to provide full assistance to Chinese citizens injured or affected by the earthquake. 3. On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Hegseth said that Japan is an indispensable partner in deterring China's aggression. What is the foreign ministry’s comment on this? We always maintain that the U.S.-Japan military security cooperation should not target third countries or harm regional peace and development. The U.S. uses the so-called China threat as an excuse to provoke ideological confrontation, incite division and confrontation, and even instigate certain countries to act as cannon fodder for maintaining U.S. hegemony. Regional countries should be vigilant and take precautions against this. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Japan should especially learn from historical lessons and act cautiously in the field of military security. The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair, and how to resolve it is a matter for the Chinese people, not for others to interfere. We urge certain individuals in the U.S. to abandon the illusion of using Taiwan to contain China, and take concrete actions to adhere to the one-China principle and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiqués, and fulfill the commitments made by the U.S. on Taiwan-related issues. Japan once invaded and colonized Taiwan, bearing serious historical responsibilities to the Chinese people. Japan should adhere to the principles of the four political documents between China and Japan, be cautious in its words and actions on the Taiwan issue, and not send wrong signals to the Taiwan independence separatist forces. 6. With the Australian election approaching, has China considered the election factor when dispatching research or military vessels? Will more vessels be sent there before the election? I have nothing to offer at the moment.
