Quetta, Pakistan 01:05 Wide of police in street with audio of gunfire 01:10 Various of burning vehicles, police armoured vehicles and people in streets 01:33 Ends STORYLINE: Suicide bombers attacked a Shiite Muslim mosque in Pakistan packed with worshippers on Friday, killing at least 30 people, according to officials. Enraged Shiites then went on a rampage through the city, Quetta, in the southwest of Pakistan. The national private emergency service EDHI Foundation counted 47 bodies of mosque victims in hospitals, according to a spokesman. Around two thousand people were praying when three attackers entered the mosque, according to one witness, others said grenades were thrown inside. VOICE-OVER: 00:02 Bloodshed in a place of worship, and during Friday prayers - the Muslim holy day Whoever carried out the attack intended to do maximum harm. Initial reports suggest it was either done by suicide bombers or by grenades. 00:18 The mosque in Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province, belongs to Pakistan's Shiite muslim faith. Quetta is a city of over a (m) million people, about two thirds of whom are shiites. 00:31 Most of Pakistan's 140 (m) million people get along, but violent groups from both the Sunni and Shiite sects have sprung up in recent years. 00:41 President Pervez Musharraf, in France on the final leg of an international tour, vowed to "act very strongly" against those responsible. 00:51 SOUNDBITE (English) Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President "I've always been saying that it is unfortunate that there are some elements in Pakistan who undermine whatever Pakistan stand for, whatever the vast majority stands for." 01:04 UPSOUND Gunfire 01:07 Violence tends to lead to more violence - and after Friday's mosque attack, enraged Shi'ite Muslims rioted in Quetta's streets. 01:16 Musharraf has banned several militant groups in Pakistan, including extremist Sunni Muslim organisations, blamed for earlier attacks on their Shi'ite brethren. 01:24 Despite the ban, many of the groups' leaders still operate freely.
