On the morning of July 13, 2025, chaos erupted at the busy intersection of South Figueroa Street and West Olympic Boulevard in Downtown Los Angeles. LAPD Central Patrol officers responded to reports of a man wielding a sword and threatening pedestrians in broad daylight. When officers arrived, they encountered 36-year-old Gurpreet Singh standing in the intersection armed with a machete. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, Singh refused to comply. He then threw a water bottle at officers and fled the scene in his vehicle—waving the machete out the window during a dangerous pursuit through city streets. The chase ended near Figueroa Street and 12th Street, where Singh exited the vehicle still armed and charged at officers. The confrontation resulted in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).
