Boulevard Saint-Martin is part of the chain of Grands Boulevards, which, from west to east, consists of Boulevards de la Madeleine, des Capucines, des Italiens, Montmartre, Poissonnière, Bonne-Nouvelle, Saint-Denis, Saint-Martin, du Temple, des Filles-du-Calvaire, and Beaumarchais. The Grands Boulevards are the quintessential Parisian boulevards. They are located on the Right Bank, on the site of the former fortifications of Charles V and Louis XIII. Boulevard Saint-Martin takes its name from its proximity to Rue Saint-Martin, where the former priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs was located, now home to the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM).
