August 6, 2025 - A Sedona woman has been sentenced to 10.5 years in prison after hitting a police officer in the head with a crowbar in November of 2023. 48-year-old Erica Ann Montgomery was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument committed against a peace officer, two additional counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, and one count of resisting arrest. Montgomery was pulled over by Sedona Police on November 3, 2023, for running a red light and driving with a suspended license plate. Yavapai County Health Officials have found two confirmed cases of canine leptospirosis in the Verde Valley. Symptoms of canine leptospirosis include fever, lethargy, vomiting, and increased thirst and urination. If untreated, it can lead to organ failure and death. Health officials warn that pets can transmit the disease to humans through exposure to urine and blood. Health officials advise you to contact your healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately and follow their instructions if you suspect you or your pet has been exposed.
