Title:- UN Security Council Authorizes New Somalia Peacekeeping Mission | UNSC Adopts Resolution 2767 (2024) The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) authorized an African Union stabilisation and support mission in Somalia — known as AUSSOM on 27 December 2024 that will replace a larger African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) from 01 January 2025. UNSC adopted resolution 2767 (2024). Adopting resolution 2767 (2024) (to be issued as document S/RES/2767(2024)) by a vote of 14 in favour to none against, with 1 abstention (United States), the Council authorized African Union members to take all necessary measures for 12 months, starting 1 January 2025, including supporting the Federal Government of Somalia in degrading Al-Shabaab and affiliates linked to Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as Da’esh. Somalia's security has been underwritten by foreign resources since Ethiopia invaded in 2006, toppling an Islamist-led administration but galvanising an insurgency that has since killed tens of thousands of people.
