The seals of Philip II Augustus King of France (Episode 4) Middle Age knights coats of arms blasons Philip II Augustus was associated with the throne from 1179 and then became king from 1180 to 1223. His first seal of majesty, known from impressions dated between 1180 and 1209, with a diameter of 77 mm, depicts him seated on a throne adorned with a lion's forepart resting on an arcaded platform. He wears long hair encircled by a crown of three fleurs-de-lis. In his right hand, he holds a full-blown fleur-de-lis and in his left, a scepter topped with a fleur-de-lis within a pommelled lozenge.
