I recently aquired a pair of Coles and thought it would be helpful for myself and others to compare these two pairs of mics on drum overheads and rooms. Each pair was recorded on the same take with the same signal chain in order to compare the two as accurately as possible. I attempted to gain match their perceived loudness as close as I could. The overhead comparison was done with a spaced pair configuration and the room comparison was done with an ORTF configuation. First, you will hear each pair in an overhead position with a full mix and solo'd. Then I will play each pair solo'd back to back without any additional processing. Second, you will hear each pair in a room position with a full mix and solo'd. Then I will play each pair solo'd back to back without any additional processing.
