This is the 2022 premium Chinese crossover: the Arcfox αT EV. Electric car company Arcfox was founded by BAIC just over five years ago. But the brand did not really succeed in entering the electric car market and creating full-fledged competition for this relatively considerable period of time. The first model intended for mass production was supposed to be the 2022 Arcfox-7 hypercar. And for its creation, the Spanish company Campos Racing, which provided technical support to the Formula E teams, was even bought. But as a result, the fine-tuning of the car was delayed, and sales have not yet begun, and the funny electric car Arcfox Lite turned out to be the first-born. But, alas, it also failed to become widespread. As a result, the manufacturer made a third attempt, and this is the Chinese crossover 2022: Arcfox α-T. Its prototype was the Arcfox ECF concept presented last year in Geneva. Walter de Silva himself even had a hand in creating its design (sort of). Although, contrary to Chinese custom, representatives of the BAIC concern spoke about this modestly and rather rarely. Of course, the electric car has become simpler: “normal” headlights and mirrors have appeared, the shape of the roof pillars has been significantly changed. In terms of format and size, it is, in fact, a classmate of the famous crossovers BMW X4 or Jaguar F-Pace: the length of the car reaches almost 4.8 meters, its width is slightly less than 2, and its height is 1.68 meters. In the electric car, aerodynamics is quite well developed and implemented: the declared coefficient is equal to Cd 0.288. Arcfox α-T was the first model based on the modular platform IMC (Intelligent Module Criterion), components for which are supplied by the global companies BorgWarner, Valeo and Siemens. From the point of view of layout, there is nothing special in the car, and the characteristics of the new electric car are not particularly striking: an electric motor is installed on each of the axles with a total output of 218 horsepower and 360 Nm. The maximum possible speed of the Chinese crossover is 180 km / h. This figure is considered quite decent when comparing the car with other electric vehicles of the same class. Perhaps one of the advantages would be to highlight the ability of buyers to choose between front and all-wheel drive, assuming that motorists will more often give preference to an all-wheel drive model. The underfloor traction battery can be of two types: 67 kWh and 93.6 kWh. The batteries are supplied by the Korean brand SK Innovation. According to the manufacturer, a full charge is enough for 480 km of travel with a battery capacity of 67 kW * h and 653 km at 93.6. The data is relevant when calculated on the legacy NEDC cycle, which the Chinese continue to use. In a really expressed, familiar to us mileage, the power reserve will be much less. There is nothing superfluous in the appearance of the Arcfox α-T. In terms of innovation and attractiveness, it is empty even for a Chinese car. Designers were probably attracted by the minimalism of Tesla Motors electric cars, which is why they decided to repeat such restraint. The Arcfox α-T is manufactured at the new BAIC BluePark Magna Automobile, a joint venture with Magna. Test production is already underway, deliveries of commercial vehicles will begin in summer.
