Tahrif (alteration of the Quran) Some weak views of alternation of the Quran, can be found in Muslim books (Sunni's and Shia's). However, the main stream view of Muslim scholars, is that the Quran we have today, is the same Quran that was revealed to the heart of Prophet Muhammad (sawa). Sayed Khoie (ra), after mentioning the different meanings and views about Tahrif, he said, 'It is a common belief between Muslims, that there is no alteration that took place in the Quran. What we have between our hands is the same book that was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (sawa).' (Tafsir Al Bayan pag, 195) Imam Khomeini (ra) says, ' What the Akhbaris say that there has been tahrif in the Quran is not true. Their proof is a few traditions some of which are fabricated "maj'ul", while others are weak "da'if", and yet some others are subject to interpretation' (Tahdhib al-Usul, V,2, P,156.) Some Muslims, accuse Shia of believing in Tahrif of the Quran. This accusation is either based on ignorance, or it is a 'big lie' technique to attack. There are few scholars from Sunni's and Shia's who believe in Tahrif, but the majority and main stream view is against them. (Refer to, Buhuth ma‘a Ahl as-Sunnah wa’l-Salafiyyah, for Sayyid Mahdi Ruhani, P, 63-74, 206-324.) Shia scholars are more firm in their belief in the Quran, than other school of thoughts. We believe, the Quran was collected during the time of the Prophet (sawa). Also, it was named 'the Quran' by Allah and His messenger. While in some Sunni sources, we read otherwise! (Refer to Al Masa'hif for Ibn Abi Dawoud V,1 P,165) After the demise of the Prophet (sawa), some Muslims started writing down their own books of Quran. The third Chalipha, Uthman Bin Afan, did a good job in uniting Muslims on one recitation and one copy, that was based on the original copy of the Prophet (sawa). This is the only Quran that we have today. It is not just to accuse Sunni's of believing in Tahrif of the Quran, just because there are some narrations about it in their books. Also, it is not right to accuse their main stream scholars of lying and practicing Taqeya, when they announce that they refuse Tahrif. Now apply the same method when you want to judge the Shia ! I have nothing but respect to all the believers and I always try my best to stay on the side of the truth. Whether you classify yourself as Shia or as Sunni, don't be quick in attacking! Don't let those who preach hate and lies, cover your eyes from seeing the truth. Thank Allah (swt) for having one divine book that is very dear to the hearts of all Muslims.
