Commemorating the 115th Premiere Anniversary of the musical "Peggy", opened on March 4, 1911 at the Gaiety Theatre and ran for 270 performances. Personally, it is Leslie Stuart's best musical, alongside Florodora and Havana. Peggy is a musical comedy in two acts, written by British composer Leslie Stuart, with a book by George Grossmith, Jr. and lyrics by C. H. Bovill, based on Xanroff and Guérin's L'Amorçage. Featuring well-known cast with Phyllis Dare as the title role "Peggy", with Grabrielle Ray and Olive May featured alongside Peggy on the front cover, as well as Edmund Payne and George Grossmith Jr. A Broadway version at the Casino Theatre also ran from December 7, 1911 to January 6, 1912 for only 36 performances, which was considerably a flop since the popularity waned out and with a rather unfamiliar cast. It was Stuart's last musical to make a hit before everything fell apart. This is probably the first time music from Peggy has been heard for over a hundred years, in the original orchestral arrangement, there are several records, including one sung by Phyllis Dare herself with "Beware, Ladies", however no online recordings has been surfaced. The Black Diamonds band also recorded the selection, but has since been lost. All photographs and related materials matches most the scene and singers of each songs. I also included lyrics to the ending of Act I Finale, which is simply "Come to Friville" but much grander, and the best of the musical. The cover art was done by Robert Pannell, a well known illustrator for Chappell from around 1900 to 1915, featuring (left to right) Olive May as Doris Bartle, Phyllis Dare as Peggy Barrison and Gabrielle Ray as Polly Polino. Do note, the original instrument was for British "small" orchestra, which included both 1st and 2nd Clarinet, where as the US only has one. There are no score oboe, bassoon, and Horns in F, but other instrument sheets provided small cues and I have deliberately filled it in as accurately as possible. Chappell's arranger Carl Kiefert cleverly selected and arranged for orchestra, featuring the following songs, almost in order of which they were sung: 1. Opening Chorus - Act II 2. Whistle and the Girls Come Round 3. Come to Friville 4. The Lass with the Lasso 5. Trio - Uncle Monty 6. Duet - You're the Man I'm Looking For 7. Ladies, Beware! 8. Sextet - Be a Lady All the Time 9. Go Away, Little Girl - Go Back to School 10. Finale - Act I Kiefert also arranged a lancers and waltzes on theme from Peggy. Featured on the Titanic White Star Songbook as No. 20 in the Selections category, it was unfortunately dropped off from the list after 1913 editions.
